NEAR to become compatible with MetaMask

NEAR has become compatible with MetaMask.
This compatibility is implemented through the NETH smart contract, which allows your Ethereum address to remotely manage the NEAR account associated with it, which allows you to interact with the dApps of the NEAR ecosystem through most popular EVM wallets.

NETH was developed by Proximity Labs as an open-source project. The whole process of interaction between accounts is non-custodial, the keys remain only with the user. The NETH account is configured only on your computer and does not interact with the server or third parties.

How to use NETH:
1. Connect your MetaMask on the NETH website.
2. Select a name for the NEAR account and create an account.
3. Creating an account costs 0.5 NEAR, which will need to be sent to a temporary account. These funds are used to pay for the account name, access keys and storage of contracts. In the future, they promise the possibility of creating accounts with a zero balance.

Why is it necessary:
Metamask remains the most popular Web3 wallet, and the easier it is to onboarding users to the network, the lower the adoption costs. Obviously, NEAR wants to attract in this way those who are more comfortable with one familiar wallet, and now the use of ecosystem dApps will become more familiar to them. The number of active addresses on the network has been falling for more than three months.

Now NETH has been added to the list of wallets for protocols such as Ref Finance and Burrow, others should catch up in the near future.
