Mediatek is a a Taiwanese fabless semiconductor company that provides chips for wireless communications, high-definition television, handheld mobile devices like smartphones and tablet computers, navigation systems, consumer multimedia products and digital subscriber line services as well as optical disc drives.

They make SoC processors for companies in the mobile industries and it's just behind Qualcomm's Snapdragon Processor in the android world. 

What you need to know before buying phones that are powered by mediatek. 

MediaTek Helio G Series

"The core of an incredible gaming experience". 

They are made specifically for gaming and so built with power efficiency. If you are a regular gamer, then go for this.

MediaTek Helio P Series

"Premium performance for slim profile smartphones".

They are made efficiently for phone photography with good AI camera and better image processing. 

MediaTek Helio A Series

"Advanced features for mid-tier smartphones".

They are made for entry level phones and as such won't be power and photography efficient like the G and P series respectively. 

If you're to go for all round, I suggest you go for the P series because it's great for everyday regular use. Watch out and try to know the Helios before buying.
